IS4SI is dedicated to fostering a global community of scholars committed to ethical, responsible, and equitable information practices. We recognize the profound impact of information on society and individuals and strive to create an environment where knowledge is accessible, equitable, and used for the betterment of humanity.

1. IS4SI General Ethical Policies:
  • Excellence in research, education, and professional practices, continuously innovating
  • Adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards
  • Conduct work with transparency, accuracy, and honesty, avoiding deception
  • Respect for intellectual property rights and copyright laws
  • Avoidance of discrimination and harassment in all aspects of our activities
  • Promotion of fair and equitable access to information, regardless of social, economic, or geographic factors.

2. IS4SI Board Members’ Responsibilities:
  • Ethical conduct in all decision-making and actions.
  • Transparency and accountability in their roles.
  • Avoidance of conflicts of interest and appropriate management of such conflicts when they arise.
  • Support for the implementation of IS4SI’s ethical principles.
  • Represent the society at interdisciplinary conferences, meetings, and other relevant events.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements

3. IS4SI Member’s Ethical Responsibilities:
  • Commitment to ethical research practices, including adherence to research integrity standards and avoidance of plagiarism.
  • Professional conduct in all interactions with colleagues, students, and the public.
  • Respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals.
  • Active participation in promoting ethical information practices within the IS4SI community.
3.1. Ethical Responsibilities for Scientists:
    • Employ robust research methods, conduct critical analysis of evidence, and accurately and comprehensively report findings in publications and peer reviews.
    • Communicate findings honestly and transparently, disclosing any potential conflicts of interest.
    • Contribute to fostering a diverse and inclusive scientific community by treating colleagues with fairness and respect.
    • Oppose unethical or illegal practices, uphold scientific codes of conduct, and report misconduct.
    • Communicate scientific findings to the public and contribute their expertise to address societal challenges such as sustainability, health, and welfare.
3.2. IS4SI Institutional Member’s Ethical Responsibilities:
    • Support for ethical research practices, including the provision of adequate resources and infrastructure.
    • Promotion of fair labor practices and working conditions for researchers.
    • Responsible dissemination of information, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and avoidance of misinformation.
    • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment.

4. IS4SI Summits’ Ethical Guidelines:
  • Ethical conduct for all participants, including speakers, attendees, and organizers.
  • Respect for intellectual property rights and copyright laws.
